The Civic Centre project on Brixton Hill has been designed to encourage more efficient working practices and reduce running costs; by bringing most of Lambeth Council’s core offices together into two spaces, it’s projected to save more than £4.5m a year.

It was also important for the Civic Centre and Town Hall to project an atmosphere of warmth, approachability and transparency, and to achieve this, furniture consultants FSL Interiors decided to make our Railway Carriage meeting pods into a major design feature. Six of our Railway Carriages were upholstered in rainbow shades of red, orange, yellow, green, violet and blue, built right into the wall of the light-filled central atrium, and labelled with graphic letters from A to F; the resulting bold, colourful display is clearly visible from the street, through the building’s large glass façade, where it welcomes visitors into Lambeth Council’s stunning new headquarters.
