anySCALE Architecture Design have developed the design concept for multiple locations of the SOHO 3Q coworking offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Over the last 4 years, they have designed and developed 25 co-working spaces for SOHO 3Q, creating 18,000 stunning workplaces.

Founded in 2014, the idea of 3Q started after visiting some co-working spaces around the US. Shortly after, CEO and Chairman of SEO China decided to test the Chinese market, initially creating two co-working spaces within their own properties - the first co-working spaces in China. anySCALE were selected to create the design.

Initially designed to fulfil completely different functions, the spaces had to be redesigned and adapted from the original layout to become attractive co-working spaces. It was important to not make the space look like a standard office, just with tables in an open space. Instead to create a design which makes the functional use of spaces intuitive for visitors, with comfortable shared spaces.

The key pillars for creating the inspiring co-working spaces are splashes of colour, open spacious areas, automation of the design processes and comfortable lighting for work. The colour range used by anySCALE for the spaces follows the main colour of SOHO China, white. In each 3Q space, white is predominantly used with wood and concrete materials also incorporated into the 'canvas' palette. Warm fresh colours typically supplement the white.

Where the US coworking style practice is often heavy, dark and in rich woody manner, SOHO 3Q designers wanted to have a lighter, more feminine design to fit in with the Chinese market. To achieve this, designers apply very light wood for each project, on the floor, the walls and for the custom build furniture. anySCALE always start with open ceilings to provide as much natural light as possible.
