Location
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Independence Blue Cross is the leading health insurance organization in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. For more than 80 years, Independence has worked to enhance the health and wellbeing of the people and the communities it services. The Daniel J. Hilferty Center for Innovation is a space designed from the group up to facilitate creative thinking and encourage collaboration.

“ When we set out to design a cutting-edge Center for Innovation at Independence Blue Cross, we worked closely with our internal teams to create a space that fosters collaboration, inspires creative thinking and brings people together across our organization and within our community.
The Spacestor Bleachers were the perfect fit for our lending library for casual meetings and presentations. They are situated right off the reception area and near the coffee bar, which is an open concept space that encourages impromtu interactions and creative brainstorming. ”
Mary Farley, Sr. Facilities Planner, Independence Blue Cross

The two-story facility provides space and resources to engage the community, members, customers, healthcare professionals, and other partners in innovative projects. It also offers Independence employees a space for collaboration and creative thinking. The open floor plan creates an inviting atmosphere that fosters creative thinking as well as individual expression. The ceilings are open, giving the space a modern industrial feel. Working with the furniture team at Spectrum, a large configuration of our Bleachers provides the perfect collaboration space. Bridging the gap between a meeting room and an auditorium-style space, the inherent flexibility of the Bleachers allows employees to instantly create the desired environment for any interaction, and as a custom upgrade, this Bleacher configuration also includes several power outlets to allow users to charge while collaborating.

The facility offers amenities such as a lending library; large meeting rooms with breakout space enabling digital presentations, live streaming and video conferencing and recording capabilities; quiet zones and privacy rooms to practise mindfulness; food and beverage service and much more. Close to the bench desking area, a run of our HotLocker product provides customized personal storage that is designed to fit in with the overall design aesthetic. Manufactured right in Philadelphia, the Bleachers and HotLocker unit travelled very few miles to their destination, and with a conscious focus on the environment, Independence Blue Cross managed to ensure that over 75% of construction materials removed from the building during the demolition were diverted from landfills and recycled.
