Software specialists JDA, who help many of the world’s biggest businesses to manage their supply chains, recently decided to expand their European presences. They rented some office space in one of London’s most iconic skyscrapers, the Gherkin (or, to use its formal name, 30 St Mary Axe), which was designed by architect Norman Foster in collaboration with Arup Group, and hired workplace experts Area to fit it out for them. ‘It was a fluid brief,’ recalls Area’s Divisional Director Calvin Williams. 'We conceptualized the design journey together, which was great because we were all involved in creating the concept.’

The result? A large, high-tech Experience Centre for visiting clients which is separated, by glazed partitions, from a medley of shared tables, small meeting rooms and two-person pods for JDA’s support staff to move between and work in as they please. Area  asked us to install a couple of Railway Carriage meeting pods upholstered in JDA’s trademark turquoise-blue; which, as you can see, look fantastic against the dramatic background of the Gherkin’s signature lattice windows.
